NC Sports Report: Carolina’s Send 10 to NCAA Baseball Tournament

North and South Carolina Combine to Send 10 Teams to NCAA Baseball Tournament

The 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament, as always, will feature a 64 team field that begins regional play this Friday. Lucky for us, 10 of the 64 teams are in our backyard. See whos heading where here.

Tournament Specs 

  • The overall field is set by 33 conference champions and 31 at-large bids. 
  • Regionals are hosted by the top 16 seeds and feature a round-robin, double elimination tournament to advance to the super regional. 
  • Super Regionals are a best of three-game series with the eight winners advancing to the College World Series
  • Then the remaining eight teams will play a double-elimination tournament until a winner is determined. 
  • TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska is the site of the College World Series.
  • Regional Play: June 1st-4th
  • Super Regionals: June 8th-11th
  • College World Series: June 16th-27th

All eyes are on Chapel Hill, Greenville, Clemson, Conway, Raleigh, and Athens this weekend. At best, the two states could combine for six teams in the Super Regionals. Furthermore, all 6 of those teams could potentially move on to the College World Series since none would have to play one another in the Super Regional. Let’s see how these regionals turnout first.
