NFL Divisional Round Preview

NFL Divisional Round Preview

After a great Wild Card weekend, it’s already time to eliminate more teams from Super Bowl contention. First, the Falcons travel to Philly to take on the top-seeded Eagles. Of course, the Eagles will be riding the talents of backup QB Nick Foles while Atlanta comes in as one of the hottest teams in the league. Later in the day, the Tennessee Titans will go into Foxboro to face the goliath Patriots. No one is giving Mariota and the Titans a chance. We’ll see if they can pull off a David-type upset. On Sunday, Sacksonville travels to the Steel City for a rematch of a Week 5 Jags 30-9 victory. Big Ben threw for five picks in the first affair and will surely look for revenge on a tough Jags secondary. Sunday’s second matchup features Drew Brees and the Saints against Case Keenum and the Vikings. The Saints have already been to Minneapolis once this season where they lost 29-19 in Week 1. However, the Saints have since found an identity on both sides of the ball. The NFL Divisional Round Preview here:

Saturday 4:35 PM – NBC

Atlanta Falcons @ Philadelphia Eagles

Passing Edge: Atlanta

Rushing Edge: Philadelphia

QB Edge: Matt Ryan (Playoff Experience + Talent)

X-Factor: Julio Jones

Rongy’s Take: The Eagles’ season has been phenomenal, but without Carson Wentz do they have a shot against the defending NFC Champion Falcons? Philly’s defense is certainly capable of shutting down anyone, but will the offense stay on the field long enough to give them any rest? With Foles, my bet is no.

Rongy’s Prediction: ATL 31-24

Saturday 8:15 PM – CBS

Tennessee Titans @ New England Patriots

Passing Edge: New England (TB & Co.)

Rushing Edge: Tennessee (O-Line)

QB Edge: Tom Brady (Do I really need to explain?)

X-Factor: Dick LeBeau

Rongy’s Take: In all honesty, either Tom Brady wipes the floor with the Titans or is this one of those wild upsets that tend to happen to Brady from time to time? Thanks to ESPN and the fire they just lit under Kraft, Belichick, and Brady’s asses, an upset is not likely. Thanks to ESPN, we should probably just pencil in the Pats as Super Bowl champs.

Rongy’s Prediction: NE 28-17

Sunday 1:05 PM – CBS

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Passing Edge: Pittsburgh (Weapons)

Rushing Edge: Pittsburgh (Le’Veon)

QB Edge: Roethlisberger (Playoff Experience)

X-Factor: Le’Veon Bell

Rongy’s Take: The Jags may have picked off Big Ben five times in Week 5, but that will not happen this time around. With or without Antonio Brown, the Steelers playoff experience speaks for itself. Despite Jacksonville’s great season, if Pittsburgh doesn’t win this game, it will go down as one of the biggest upsets in playoff history.

Rongy’s PredictionPIT 17-14

Sunday 4:40 PM – FOX

New Orleans Saints @ Minnesota Vikings

Passing Edge: Minnesota

Rushing Edge: Minnesota

QB Edge: Drew Brees

X-Factor: Alvin Kamara

Rongy’s Take: On paper, the Vikings are better but come on, the Saints are the Saints. Better yet, Drew Bress is Drew Brees. If anything, this should be the best game of the weekend. The Vikings D is tough, let’s see if Brees and the boys can figures it out.

Rongy’s Prediction: MIN 35-34
