Friday Night Spotlight 8/18/17

Though the season officially kicked off last night, we have a full slate of high school football across the state, tonight. In total, 292 high school teams are going into battle for the first time in 2017. Its back, finally. Before examining the big season openers tonight, let’s take a look at what happened on Thursday. Last night, number one ranked running back in the nation, Zamir White and Scotland County took the spotlight as they faced a tough Mallard Creek team at home. White put on an absolute show. The Georgia-commit ran for 175 yards, had 130 yards in receptions, and scored all three of the Fighting Scots touchdowns on the night. However, Mallard Creek stole the last laugh as they held on to win 28-21. Elsewhere, New Hanover High took it to J.H. Rose 62-21 in Greenville, and 1A pre-season #1 Murphy beat Pisgah 30-13.

Now let’s look at tonight’s big games:

  • Page @ Davie
  • Ardrey Kell @ Weddington
  • Charlotte Christian @ Charlotte Catholic
  • Eastern Guilford @ Northeast Guilford

Number #1 overall in the state, Wake Forest High, is starting their season at home against Millbrook. #1 ranked 3A team, Dudley opens on the road at Carver.

2A #1 Shelby kicks off their season Friday night at Freedom, #2 South Point plays Crest on the road in Shelby. 1A #1 Tarboro opens at home vs Plymouth.

Saturday also has two great match-ups.

  • Sanderson @ East Forsyth
  • West Mecklenburg @ Vance

All the speculation is over. Now it’s time for the rubber to meet the road; it’s time for football. There’s a lot of great games and great talent across the state this season. Stay tuned for weekly updates and we hope to see you out at some of these games this season.
