2017 NC High School State Champions

Now that football season has concluded, the fall football season has reached its end. Congratulations to all the newly crowned 2017 NC High School State Champions. No one will ever be able to take that away from you.

Here are this season’s champions for Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, and Football. Stay tuned for Winter sports updates. Next up are Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Wrestling. 

Fall Season

Men’s Soccer


  • State Champion: Cardinal Gibbons (23-0-2)
  • Runner-up: Hough (24-2)
  • MVP: Jackson Hollenbach
  • Notes:
    • The sixth soccer state championship in Crusader history.
    • All six of the Crusaders state titles have come within the past 12 seasons (4A: ’17; 3A: ’14, ’11, ’10; 2A: ’08, ’06).


  • State Champion: Chapel Hill (23-4-1)
  • Runner-Up: A.C. Reynolds (23-3-2)
  • MVP: Ryan Smith
  • Notes:
    • Chapel Hill’s first soccer state championship since 1983.
    • The Tiger’s lost the state title game to Marvin Ridge last season.


  • State Champion: Newton-Conover (27-0-2)
  • Runner-up: First Flight (21-2)
  • MVP: Francisco Tapia
  • Notes:
    • The third soccer state title in Red Devil history (’17, ’14, ’07).
    • First Flight had not lost a game to a North Carolina school since 2015.


  • State Champion: Bishop McGuinness (19-2-3)
  • Runner-up: Franklin Academy (23-1-1)
  • MVP: Brad Standen
  • Notes:
    • Bishop McGuinness’ first ever men’s soccer state championship.
    • Franklin had not lost a game all season and was playing for their second state championship in three years.

    • The second straight volleyball title for Green Hope.
    • Green Hope is 59-3 over the past two seasons.


  • State Champion: North Iredell (28-2)
  • Runner-Up: Chapel Hill (25-7)
  • MVP: Ashley Hawkins
  • Notes:
    • First volleyball state championship in North Iredell history.
    • Chapel Hill lost the state title last season as well.


  • State Champion: Carrboro (31-0)
  • Runner-Up: West Iredell (27-4)
  • MVP: Destiny Cox
  • Notes:
    • Carrboro’s second straight volleyball title.
    • The Jaguars haven’t lost a match in their last 61 chances.


  • State Champion: Community School of Davidson (22-1)
  • Runner-Up: Roxboro Community (28-3)
  • MVP: Sara Labadorf
  • Notes:
    • The second straight volleyball state championship for the Spartans and second overall.
    • Roxboro has only lost 10 matches over the past four seasons
